What's Involved With a Pool Liner Replacement

Wear and tear is an inevitable factor in a well-used pool. Over time, between sunlight, chemicals, weathering, and sharp objects, a pool liner is at some point bound to degrade to the point of leaks. Ideally, before this time, a replacement should be measured and ordered in order to minimize potential downtime of your pool.

Out With the Old

When the new pool liner is on-site, the pool is completely drained. If there is not a drain positioned to remove the last bit of water, a pump is employed. Once dry, cover plates are removed, and the old liner is cut into smaller sections and taken away. Now is the perfect time to do an inspection of the pool bottom and repair any cracks or damage that has formed.

In With the New

Unravelling the new lining requires a small team of people to ensure that it is not dragged across the pool bottom or corners—scuffing at this point can cause premature wear. Once the new liner is fitted, it will be tucked into the lip all along the perimeter of the pool.

Next, a vacuum system is used to fully remove any air between the liner and the concrete or Zonolite while the pool is filled with water. When the water is high enough, the vacuum is stopped while the covers and sealing strips are installed. Then the final top-up takes place, and the pool is treated and balanced.

As fresh and bright as your pool may look with a new liner, treatment chemicals need a little bit of time to disperse, so, resist the temptation to dive in right away! After this small wait, though, you can look forward to several more years of dependability from your pool, thanks to your decision to replace your pool liner.
